Play Time is a solo exhibition by artist Maia Flore curated by MDG Art Advisory in collaboration with Themes + Projects. The show is on view at Handel Architects San Francisco office through December, 2019 by appointment via email maria@mariadigrande.com.
Maia Flore is a French photographer who captures playful scenes that fluctuate between fiction and reality. Inspired by the style of film-maker, Jacques Tati, Maia creates short narrative scenes sometimes bizarre or even surreal. Her photographs are always ambiguous so that the viewer can only imagine which remains outside of the frame. Instead of relating a specific story, this is a suggestion of psychological and symbolical charged scenarios.
Most of works in the exhibition are from Le Voyage Fantastique series, a commissioned project by the French Institute and the Minister of Tourism in which Flore visited 25 monuments in France in an attempt to showcase the country in a very contemporary way.
Flore graduated from Ecole des Gobelins in 2010. In 2011, she joined Agence VU' , a photography agency based in Paris. In 2015, she wins Le prix HSBC pour la photographie.
